South Park illustrated how dumb all of these scientific approaches toward sex addiction look.  And now Girls & Sports illustrates how dumb the “I want different flavors of ice cream” argument sounds.

Monogamy the Game

Monogamy the Game

I looked up “monogamy” on Google Images the other day and saw a picture of a Monogamy board game.  I thought it was a joke, but it’s for real.  Here is the description from the site,

MONOGAMY A Hot Affair… With Your Partner!

Embark on an illicit affair with your partner as you both rediscover why you fell for each other in the first place and recreate those heady honeymoon days. Get to know each other on a completely new level as you talk about things you probably never have before. Whether you’ve been together a few months or a few years, Monogamy really is the perfect start to a hot, steamy affair…

Described by players as “addictive” and “a beautiful well thought out game.”

The game contains 390 different ideas and actions at three progressive levels:

* Intimate
* Passionate
* Steamy

The game can be purchased for 25 pounds.

Lord knows Halle Berry is has had her trouble with men.  Her first husband David Justice allegedly beat her and her second husband Eric Benet cheated on her.  Now she and her partner/father of her child Gabriel Aubry have split after a four year relationship.

Apparently there were two causes of the divorce – their 9-year age difference (she’s 43 and he’s 34) and his “wandering eye.”  According to the source:

The source adds that Gabriel’s wandering eye was also a factor in the split: “… he would never cheat on her, but I suspect that he had become attracted to someone and that he felt he needed to break it off with Halle before anything developed any further.”

I think Gabriel did the right thing here.  Many men have these feelings and think that they are normal, but in fact they are not.  It is okay to find other people attractive, but it is not okay to lust after someone to the point where you may make a mistake later on.  I MUCH rather him realize this beforehand, than to make a mistake and try to clean up things on the back end.  It’s not easy to break things off before you even cheat, but that’s a sign of true maturity.

I know that they have a child together, but they are not married.  Moreover, emotional affairs can be just as bad as physical ones.  If Halle truly were the apple of his eye, he wouldn’t be tempted like that.  And while 99% of men can’t understand why he would do this to her, I’ve been in a similar situation before and can attest that he did the right thing.

It’s no secret that I’m a big Trey Songz fan.  I believe that he is a very talented R&B singer musician.  If you really listen to his music, however, you will see that he takes monogamy seriously.  One of my favorite songs on his Anticipation mixtape was “Infidelity,” in which he talks about he really messed up.   When he sings over Jamie Foxx’ “Blame It”, he says “Beyonce says, if you like it put a ring on it/ And if I did, then the kid wouldn’t cheat on it.”

Most recently, he let loose a new Songz gem entitled “Already Taken.”  It’s a song about a guy who is used to partying it up, but once he finds the right woman, he proudly lets other women know that he’s already taken.  Sounds like the story of my life.

Pardon the language in the song.  I guess he’s really passionate about monogamy (he actually doesn’t curse on his album Ready).

Update: Until I learn how to increase the php size for audio, please enjoy the song on YouTube. And it’s the clean version…even better.

This is one of those times I wish I lived in NY.  Here’s footage of Director Dana Adam Shapiro talking about his movie “Monogamy” with the New York Times.  It is showing at the Tribeca Film Festival.  If you’re in the area, be sure to support it.  I guess I’ll have to see it when it goes to DVD.

One of the Manogamy Movement’s four principles is V for Visibility.  Well, there’s no better way to be visible than to dress like your significant other.  Although it’s a little weird to me, I definitely support it.

Jerry Seinfeld is creating a new  ”stand-up/reality TV hybrid” show on NBC called The Marriage Ref.  The show allows husbands and wifes to duke it out over common issues problems and have a “referee” to decide who’s the winner.  Seinfeld says

“I hope it’s not grandiose to say, but maybe it’ll save a marriage here and there,” he explains. “I gotta believe that somewhere, someone out there is going to go, ‘I’m not the only one!’”

Living up to their name Ashley Trashy Madison, the marital affairs website, plans on advertising during the show.  The tasteless company even bragged about it on their blog.  The Fox News article says that NBC reached out to Trashy Madison, but this has not been confirmed.  It may be the other way around.

Some people wonder whether The Marriage Ref itself will cast relationships in a negative light.  I don’t think this show is any different from Why Did I Get Married Too? The point is to show that couples have real problems and that the point is to address these issues.  In fact, Seinfeld is a monogamy advocate.  When asked about monogamy, he had the following to say:

My personal viewpoint is this: The problem with humans is our heads are just way too big. And one of the greatest appeals of monogamy is the simplification of the mental process.

I don’t have any friends who aren’t faithful to their wives, but if I did, my main question would be, “Who’s got time to figure all that out?” It’s just too much work. The emotions that have to be disposed of, the values, the ethics…. All I see is this gigantic amount of work for a fleeting pleasure.

People should get married because they have finally seen the folly of being single: “Oh, this is all just kind of a bad magic trick. I just keep bending over to reach for this wallet on a string. How much longer am I gonna do that?”

Thank you for standing up for monogamy Mr. Seinfeld.  I hope to catch your show sometime.  And I really hope NBC doesn’t give in and allow those ads in.

There are, sadly, many misconceptions about Africa.  I have not had the privilege of going, but my father said Ghana is the most beautiful place he has ever visited.  Moreover, people think that people from Africa are uncultured or ignorant.  This couldn’t be further from the truth.  In fact, if you just survey this website, you’d think that Americans are the uncultured animals that think they can hump anything with two legs.

A recent Pew Research Center study (I love those guys by the way), stated that 75% of South Africans believe polygamy is wrong despite having a president that will soon take a fourth wife.  The article also says that Africa is the most religious continent with more than 80% of people asserting that they believe in God in most countries.

Rather than trying to talk about how uncultured other people are, we should first take a look at the mirror.  Americans have serious fidelity, pornography, and corruption issues, so we should watch how we depict others.
