Glad the site is here, and I am glad you don't seem to be overly religious. I'm a Pagan and have been happily married to my Pagan Gal for nearly 20 years. We believe in monogamy for ourselves and others that choose it, and we have always been faithful to each other and we are still sweethearts.

I like being married, and I recommend it to people all the time.

First off, anyone that leaves an anonymous comment is per se a coward. Second, anyone that attacks my site without backing their claim is ignorant. This blog is about monogamy. That has nothing to do with religion. I know athiests that think cheating is wrong. When you are ready to have an adult conversation, I'll be here.

"polygamy doesn’t work because there are pretty much as many males as females born and polygamy would mean that many men don’t get a mating partner while the Alpha Male gets all the women in a community."

@Natalie: What you described there is exactly how things work in nature - the alpha male gets all the girls and the other guys get to look on. That's why it's called natural selection. Fair? No. But nature isn't known to be fair; fairness is a human invention.

Now, I'm not saying we should follow these primal instincts and live in hordes again with tribe leaders getting all the females as in ancient cavemen times. I sure wouldn't want to be wife 14 of some tyrant. All I'm saying is, these primal instincts are still with us. They subconsciously still dictate a large part of our behavior, whether we like it or not with our modern concepts of fairness and social norms. And that's the reason a "manogamy movement" will never be more than a quirky idea of a random blogger.

I wasn't aware of the different female preferences by cycle, but it makes perfect sense. Thanks! And yes, open relationship, I know I may get chastised by some for saying that, but in a limited form, it works great for me and my husband! :-)

@Michelle: all true, but polygamy doesn't work because there are pretty much as many males as females born and polygamy would mean that many men don't get a mating partner while the Alpha Male gets all the women in a community. Ad women aren't particularly interested in polyandria because only one man at a time is needed for a woman to reproduce. Also, studies have shown that women prefer a different type of man depending on her cycle, being drawn to the Alpha Male fearless leader type at their most fertile, while finding the tamer, less aggresive men more attractive when they're not ovulating. This is because the Alpha Male's genes will ensure better survival and reproduction success chances of the offspring but the Beta Male is more likely to stick around, provide for and help raise the offspring. So what women do? They get attached with the Beta but have sex with the Alpha when opportunity arises. Commonly known as cheating. :) That's a phenomenon not even limited to human species. Going by nature, it would seem that serial monogamy is the best compromise for both genders as far as far as ensurig the survival of our kind goes. Or open relationships. It does not seem to be in human nature to remain monogamous with anyone. Whether we consciously choose to act against that nature is up to us, there are people who choose celibacy and claim to be happy.
