
It’s hard to reconcile our disdain for cheating when we seemingly enjoy seeing it in theaters. All of the greatest love stories from Casablanca to The Notebook, illustrate the passion of cheating. How many movies can you think of where monogamy is depicted as something that is desirable?
I’m not saying that adultery in movies should be banned, but there has to be some type of balance. Romantic comedies tend to focus on monogamy, but when you think about dramas (which are less corny), they almost always sway in favor of the cheating. Shakespeare came up with a dramatic way that emphasized monogamy in Romeo & Juliet. Why can’t today’s directors?
